Be Still, I got this - God
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah— Psalm 46
I recently preached a sermon and here are some thoughts from that. I hope they encourage you to press into Jesus. Feel free to share this with someone who needs it.
Things that we see are true from this passage:
God is our Refuge
God is our Strength
God is our Always, Ever Present Help in Trouble.
Therefore, we will not fear.
Because God is our refuge, strength, & ever-present help in trouble. We WILL NOT fear.
Why? ‘Cause the God of the Universe, Creator, Sustainer God is with us.
Trouble will come.
If God is our very present help in trouble then it is to be assumed we will have trouble.
There are too many people out there telling you that you won’t have trouble. If you follow Jesus you will have your best life now.
That isn’t true.
It isn’t true.
It isn’t even close to true.
Life is hard. Life has struggle & storms. Even if you follow Jesus. Because you follow Jesus. But God is our refuge, God is our strength, God is our ever-present help in trouble.
Be still is not this cliche promise, because everything is going to be totally fine.
Instead, it is the insanely humbling realization that we are to be still because the God who created everything, who controls the wind & the rain looks at us and says,
"Why are you freaking out? Why are you flailing about? I am God. I will be exalted. I am not worried. Why are you worried? I see the storm. I know it can be scary but I am with you. Look at me.Seriously. Look at me. I got you. I got us. We will make it to where we are going. It will be bumpy. There will be trouble. But I got us. I got my people. I got you. Trust me. Be still, and know that I am God.And because I am God.. nothing can stop me from saving you."
