A person’s final words reveal a lot about them. Steve Jobs could only scream in surprised excitement. Truman Capote called out for his mother. And Emily Dickinson composed a poem: “I must go in, for the fog is rising.”
Jesus used his final breath to exclaim τετέλεσται or tetelestai — “It is finished.”
This sounds like something you would say after a long, hard day of work. And no greater work, no greater love, and no greater humility has ever or will ever match it.
It is finished. Death has died. Peace with God. Eternal life is possible. Believe it and be encouraged.
