The word “ransom” is all over the New Testament, but do we really know what it means? And do we really believe we were ransomed? That would mean we were a prisoner to someone or something.
Well, we were!
Adam was perfect when he was made, but he enslaved himself to sin and death by disobeying God. When he had children, he passed on to them the consequences. And when they had children, the same thing happened… all the way down to you and me.
But Jesus did something more beautiful for us than you could possibly imagine. He died to rescue us because we could never pay that massive debt to get out of slavery.
So when you say “I have been ransomed” it’s not some dramatic metaphor. It really happened!
