If you’ve read “The Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis, it’s not hard to picture God as a lion. Aslan the Lion is powerful, strong, and very wise.
But if you’ve never heard of Aslan, it can be quite terrifying to potentially meet this lion. That’s how Susan, one of the four children who stumbled into Narnia through a wardrobe, felt. After all, who has ever heard of a safe lion?
“Is he — quite safe?” Susan asked. “I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion."
"Safe?" said Mr. Beaver. "Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you."
Our God is a lion. He’s not safe. But he’s a King. And he’s our King.
