I recently came across this video of one of my favorite teachers. He speaks of a powerful truth that I wanted to write about a bit.
Take a look below (7 mins):
You can't run your car today on yesterday's gasoline.
Every day we are being made into the image of Christ. Every day our minds are renewed. Every day we are more like we were supposed to be, more like we will be in heaven.
But it is done daily
It doesn't last more than a day.
It isn't meant to.
It is done slowly.
In parts, never in whole.
He doesn't need to wait until heaven. And it is certainly not because he can't or because sin is in his way, or the devil, or the boogeyman.
God could fully sanctify & perfect us in a moment. But he doesn't. He chooses not to. God chooses to not fully sanctify us. God sets it up so that we are broken vessels, broken pots, fixed slowly.
Patched day by day by day by day.
Each day has it special sort of patching that God is doing.
Isn't that weird? God, who hates sin, who hates wickedness, who hates our wandering, He chooses to renew us daily, to sanctify us slowly.
So that he would be our daily bread.
So that he would be our much needed help in trouble.
God doesn't give us a solution and then walk away.
He is the solution.
He is our daily bread.
God sanctifies us slowly so that we would throw ourselves on his grace & mercy every day, knowing that we can trust him. God sanctifies us slowly so that he would hold all the power, so that he would get the glory in helping and caring for us.
God is the point of all of this. His glory is what he is after. His glory is what we are after. It isn't about us being made perfect in this life, instead it is about a hope, the gospel, us putting all of our eggs in his basket, trusting only in the promise that he will be enough for us.
Enough for us today.
Tomorrow, don't worry about tomorrow.
Tomorrow has it's own troubles.
But thankfully, it will have it's own mercies.
Today's mercy is not designed for tomorrow's trouble.
If you feel empty all the time it is because you are a broken vessel, but don't try to fix yourself, just go back to the unlimited supply of water, of bread, of hope in him and get filled up, today. But don't forget you are broken vessel, you don't get filled up once, you get filled daily.
Filled up today for today.
Filled up tomorrow for tomorrow.
It is meant to be that way. You are meant to be weak, he is meant to be strong. And he loves it that way. Don't fret that your weak. He knows. He likes to save you each and every day.
God gets glory by us resting in him, NEEDING him each day. It brings us back to him, the well each and every day.
Go to the well each day. He loves to fill you.
